The Origins of Humanity
Lost deep in human history is the origin of the species. Long ago the original humans moved out through space in massive colony ships that took several generations of crew to reach their destination. These ships were self-sufficient mobile countries that could take an entire people from one planet to another. Millennia ago a group of humans were sent to the solar system we call Proxima Centauri. Upon reaching their destination they found the planet decimated in the wake of a planet-killer sized asteroid impact. With their ship ageing and their resources relatively low, the people of the ship headed for the nearest habitable planet aiming to settle there. The problem came when they arrived in the system. The ship was not capable of making the extra century long journey, and it was forced to crash land. What was supposed to be a careful seeding of a planet was turned into a mad dash for survival and a random, ill equipped emergency evacuation. All the technology they were supposed to use to found their new civilisation was destroyed as the weakened ship burned into the atmosphere and crashed into one of Earth’s huge oceans. They lost their technology and all semblance of ordered seeding had been destroyed. The humans were scattered across the lands of Earth in a random pattern. Devoid of their colonizing resources, and suffering massive casualties the survivors were forced back into an ancient living style, in a manner they were not trained for. The colonists were forced to mix with the primitive inhabitants and start over. Never again did they hear from their parent worlds, for when the second generation reached the original planet, they saw the destruction that had been wrought and assumed the colony lost in the devastation.
Twenty five thousand years later the humans had forgotten their past and were building a new future. They moved back through the evolution of civilisation, art and technology and began once again to explore space.
With the beginnings of space explorations the Humans of Earth took the first bold steps and start to colonise the other planets in their solar system. They send probes into space and with them, messages of greetings from us to whomever is out there. We had our doubts and dreams as to the existence of alien life, but these theories were all put to rest when an alien scout ship was damaged by pirates and crashed in the middle of Stockholm, in broad daylight. The world knew we were not alone. The efforts to contact other worlds were stepped up and messages were beamed out. The communication array of the scout was smashed, but there were other technologies that were discovered, including the Hyperdrive or Jump Engine. This started a new science as the surviving pilot worked with the worlds scientists to develop Hyperspace travel.
The arrival of Arim Nolis also heralded a new age in human society, faced with the undeniable truth that there was an alien civilisation out there, the United Nations petitions for unity on the Earth, and a global government established, cementing the already century old global peace keeping efforts into a governing body.
Ten years of war and terrorism erupt over the existence of a global government, but when most of the western world and the Asian governments ally, fully three quarters of the world are under EarthGov. Over the next three decades slowly more and more countries join and a global peace settles. As a unified effort the world science community strives to reach the races of the galaxy.
Forty five years later, with most of the solar system explored by manned ships, and colonies are thriving on Mars and the Moon. We receive our first visit, from the wrong people. Alien planet pirates launch an attack on earth, their technology far superior to ours easily decimates the defence forces of EarthGov and start to lay siege to the Moon, kidnapping everyone and using them as slaves to be sold around the galaxy.
Then, just as it looked like Earth was to be invaded, the creators of the Sapient Species Guild, a UN like Galactic body, arrives and drives off the slavers. Envoys of Original Humans, called the Fraal, arrive on Earth and meet with the leaders of EarthGov. Earth joins the SSG and learns of its origins. Terrans are welcomed into the galactic community, and new trade and technology is introduced. The sciences are expanded at exponential rate.
